Cast Bullet Postal Matches!
Try your cast
bullet skills by entering a postal match. There are matches for
handguns, lever rifles, break-action rifles/handguns, military rifles
and carbines, plus all regular CBA rifle classes.
You send for
targets, shoot them on your own according to the rules, and send them in
for scoring. Download the information
here.
You don't have to cast the
bullets yourself. Some of our members will give you some bullets
to try out and instructions for how to load and shoot them. Recoil
and muzzle blast is moderate and you will have a lot of fun shooting
them.
Email
me for further information and someone to help you get started.
Do you have a .32 Rimfire and

youtube the how-to

Cast Bullet Rifle and Handgun MatchesThe Club
hosts at least one registered Cast Bullet Association benchrest and
military match each month from May through September. Anyone can
participate in our matches, the main requirement being that you must
shoot cast lead-alloy bullets.
You can sign up to shoot in many
different classes that were defined to keep the playing field reasonably
level.
For the regular benchrest matches the
classifications are:
Hunter 9.5lb, stock
production
Production 12lb, stock production
Heavy 14lb, no other restrictions
Unrestricted Rifle No restrictions except shooter has
to lift rifle onto bench without any help
Long Range Handgun
7.5lb, 15" barrel
Unrestricted Handgun Same as
Unrestricted Rifle
The
official rules are found
here.
The national record in Hunter class 100 yard 10-shot group was set at BHSC in
2018.
The national record in Hunter class 200 yard 5-shot group was
set at BHSC in 2019.
The national record 100 yard Big Bore 40-shot
Standing was set at BHSC in 2018.
For the Military benchrest matches the classifications
are:
Issue As Issued
Modified Iron
Sight mods allowed
Modified Scope 6X maximum power,
but a variable set at 6X is allowed.
Big Bore
Military Issure 39 Caliber and greater.
The official rules are found
here.
A
shooter can also use the offhand position. The 40 shots standing
in Big Bore national record was set at BHSC in 2018. A
standing big bore score national record was set here in 2019.
If you
happen to have a "Sporterized" military rifle, it may be legal in the
mil-mod classes and production class IF the barrel retains its original
contour. There are some other restrictions regarding the stock,
but the rules are very generous. Those old military rifles can
really shoot, even with a less than perfect bore. Give yours a try
if you have one!
Here
is one of our club members at the 2018 CBA National Matches in Kansas
City. Of the seven medals, one of them is a Gold for the 10-shot goup
Grand Aggregate in Production Class(Average Two groups at 100 and two
groups at 200 yards). The rifle was a Remington 700 LTR in 223 Rem.
Virtually all competitors use a 30 caliber but there were two 223s this
year.
For 2019, the same member brought nine
medals home from the National Matches and with 2nd place in Production
class and the "Little Bore" match.
Here are two 100-yard groups
shot with a 30BR and cast bullets in a Heavy class rifle.
This is the first load
tried in a new rifle, so it is expected it will do much better.
